Institute of Corrosion Science and Technology
The Institute of Corrosion Science andTechnology(ICOST)was founded On March 9, 2020,it is composed by the Institute of Metal Research (IMR),Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), the National Engineering Research Center for Corrosion Control(NCCC) and the Management Committee of Guangzhou High-tech Industrial Development Zone .
In October 2020, the ICOST was officially approved as a high-level innovation research institute in Guangdong. ICOST became the leading unit of national key R&D projects andthe supporting unit of National Natural Science Foundation of China. ICOST wasOfficially listed and built three national and provincial platforms, theNational Engineering Research Center for Corrosion Control (Guangdong), theCorrosion Control Engineering Laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences(Guangdong) and Guangdong Corrosion Control Engineering Technology Research Center. Asia Pacific Academy of MaterialsScience (APAM), Office of the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Materialsand Corrosion and CorrosionReviews, Secretariat of the CorrosionControl Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance, Secretariat of theMarine Materials Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance, ChinaMaterials Research The Secretariat of the Corrosion Resistant Materials andCorrosion Control Branch of the Society, the Secretariat of the GuangdongCorrosion Protection and Surface Engineering Society, and the Guangzhou Corrosion and Protection Society Secretariat rely on our institute and havebeen recognized as the public service demonstration platform for small andmedium-sized enterprises in Guangdong and the advanced materialsindustry in Guangdong. Based on the disciplinary advantages, research results and talent teams that have been formed in the fields of metal corrosion protection and new materials in the fields of metal corrosion protection and new materials, the ICOST is committed to building a new type of R&D institution integrating basic research, technology research and development, system integration, engineering application, industrialization cultivation, public technical services and other full-chain work in combination with the industrial layout, talent advantages and policy support of the Greater Bay Area.
The goal of the ICOST is to build an innovation platform with "vigorous synergy and joint efforts to create with elements such as production, education, research and capital" in about 10 years, a core base for the innovation and development of corrosion protection technology in China and the transfer and transformation of achievements, and an international top corrosion control center with "international first-class basic research, international leading technical, and industrial integration of research and development results".
The ICOST adheres to the global vision of absorbing and gathering talents, and pays attention to the cultivation and introduction of high-level talents. It is planned to build a high-level team of 300 people in 5 years. As of the end of Dec 2023, the ICOST has 262 registered personnel, of which 71% are master's degree or above, 20% are senior professional titles, and 31% are doctors in the R&D team. It has introduced 3 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering(CAE), 1 innovation team of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the China, 2 distinguished Young, 2 WR leading talent, 3 national candidate for the New Century Million Talents Project, and 3 research teams of the hundred Talents Program of the CAS. 2 senior manager has been introduced full-time.We were selected into a foreign expert project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, one of the most beautiful science and technology workers in Guangdong, 1 "Outstanding Talent", 2 "Excellent Talents", 3 "Elite Talents" in Huangpu, Guangzhou and 1 Model Worker in Huangpu. We have obtained the Guangdong Provincial Postdoctoral Innovation Practice Base and the Huangpu Postdoctoral Innovation Center.
The ICOST has set up nine Research Center: Nuclear energy corrosion service safety center, green new energy corrosion service safety center, oil and gas industry corrosion service safety center, marine facilities corrosion service safety center, transportation corrosion service safety center, infrastructure corrosion service safety center, corrosion-resistant steel materials and their low carbon Preparation Center, Corrosion-Resistant Light Metal Materials R&D Center, Advanced Materials Biomanufacturing Center.The ICOST has seven key R&D directions:Corrosion-resistant materials, surface modification technology, corrosion protection coatings and coatings, corrosion inhibitors, cathodic protection, monitoring and detection technology, engineering structure safety evaluation and life prediction and failure analysis.
